Box Office Rundown: ‘THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS’ Passes $1 BILLION

‘The Fate of the Furious’ won the weekend for a third straight week. That sent its international box office over $1 BILLION in less than a month. Round of applause everyone because whether or not you enjoy these movies, they crush at the box office. I’ll also go through the rest of the Top 5 later in the article but we’ll continue with the success of the latest ‘Fast and Furious’ film.

The ‘Fast’ franchise is sort of a divisive one. A large group of people see it as a franchise that had jumped the shark a few movies ago. I for one think they are amazing fun and we should be allowed to have fun at the theater. I actually owe them all on Blu-Ray and watch them frequently. A lot of the criticism you hear come from critics on the Internet and that comes from a more domestic angle. The biggest thing with these films in particular though is that they’re huge International hits.

‘The Fate of the Furious’ actually passed ‘Furious 7’ as the highest-grossing import film ever. Much like the ‘Transformer’ films, the ‘Fast’ franchise makes an insane amount of money around the world and that’s fantastic. That of course can be attributed to the subject matter and the diverse cast. A lot of people are drawn to these movies because they either have a love for the characters or the amazing stunts and cars. Whether you enjoy them or not, you have to give credit to the model they have for these films because they are wildly successful.

Now I’ll list the Top 5 of the weekend and there is a lot of shakeup in preparation for the release of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.’ next week:

  1. ‘The Fate of the Furious’; $19 million
  2. ‘How to be a Latin Lover’; $12 million
  3. ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’; $10 million
  4. ‘The Circle’; $9.3 million
  5. ‘The Boss Baby’; $9 million

Of course ‘Guardians’ will win the box office next week but check back here to see by just how much they will win it. –Jackson Hayes
