Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opened overseas this weekend to a whopping $101.2 million. This puts the sequel to James Gunn’s surprising critical and financial mega-hit on par to to at least match its box office projections. The film is yet to open in just under half of its international market.
This upcoming weekend will likely be another heist for the highly anticipated superhero flick when it hits theaters in Russia, Korea, the United States, and the ever-important China. The following weekend the space-opera finally opens in Japan.
The U.K. had the highest opening with $15.5 million. Only Beauty and the Beast claims a higher opening weekend across the pond. Other massive openings were in Mexico ($7.6 million), France ($7.9 million), Germany ($8.3 million), and Australia with a whopping $11.6 million.
The German and French openings were even higher than that of Captain America: Civil War.
