‘GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2’ Review! It’s “Out of this World”

The Summer Blockbuster Season has begun, in an out of this world way with GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2! Set to the tunes of the amazing, Awesome Mix Vol. 2 we follow our ragtag group of heroes through another hilarious adventure!

We’re going to keep this review Non Spoiler until the end of the review (don’t worry we will give you a warning) but to keep it simple, if you liked the first Guardians you will like this one! It is funnier, has better action and even has more heart! It is hard to say that the Sequel is better than the original because the original was just so special, but the sequel certainly has some better moments. Vol. 2 is plagued with a relatively weak plot that I feel lacks a 2nd act, but what it lacks in plot it makes up for in amazing character moments, it really is a character driven story! This movie will have you rolling on the floor laughing and holding back the tears!

Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-Vol-2-Baby-Groot-1Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is one of the funniest movies I think I have ever seen, the crowd was literally nonstop laughing, I could hear people wheezing from laughter. Guardians is also one of the best looking movies we have gotten in a while, the visuals were stunning, from the practical effects to the gorgeous CGI and cinematography. The Practical effects and make up are so well done, it wouldn’t surprise me Guardians has its name thrown in the hat for an Oscar for Best Make Up (Just like last year’s Oscar Winning Suicide Squad). Another Ascetically appeal aspect of Vol. 2 is THE Awesome Mix Vol. 2, the music is perfect and always plays at the perfect timing to elevate the film to a new level, you will have the Mix on repeat immediately after you see the movie (I know that is what I’m listening too right now as I type this review).

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has some of the best cameos to date, (will discuss them in the spoiler section of the review) and sets up the future of the MCU! This movie even has a great villain, a rare occasion for an MCU flick (going to discuss the villain itself in the spoiler section of my review). Every character has their moments to shine, EVEN Baby Groot, who I was worried was going to get old fast, but he is used in just the perfect amount to be extremely enjoyable! Peter Quill shines, this is his story and Chris Pratt kills it, and his chemistry with his father, Ego, played by Kurt Russel is so great, making Ego a great addition! nullWith all these characters in this movie at least one will suffer screen time, in this case Drax and new addition, Mantis get the short stick when it comes to screen time, whenever they are on the screen they are killing it, but they are so underused! Yondu and Rocket really do make a great team and make you fall in love with the characters even more! I cannot think of a single character that was not well done, bravo James Gunn, such a well written and directed film!

Earlier in the review, I mentioned the weak plot that felt like it was missing a second act, that comes because the team is separated earlier on, as shown I the trailers, and that just harkens the plot going back and forth between the two teams, with some characters story lines just kind of there, would have much rather seen more of the whole team interacting!

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is a treat and the definition of a summer blockbuster, get ready to bust a gut laughing or fight back the tears because of your love for the characters and their journeys, I cannot wait to see Vol. 2 again!      8.6/10

Going to talk some spoilery aspects of the movie below!

Earlier in the review I discussed the fact that the villain was great, the villain really wasn’t revealed in the trailers, the villain being EGO. He was so likable, had great chemistry with Peter, but then at a point turned completely psychotic! The visuals on Ego were spectacular, the planet itself looked gorgeous (and yes they put a face on a planet) and when Ego is building his body the detail is tremendous! The Original Guardians Cameos (with freakin Rocky Balboa) were amazing and I cannot wait to see more of that team in the future (Cough Cough Guardians of the Galaxy 3000). guardians-of-galaxy-2-story-spoilers-994078Stan Lee Cameoing with The Watchers was brilliant and had me “nerdgasiming” in the theater, confirming a popular fan theory! Yondu’s death had me fighting back tears, because he really was Peter’s Dad and the way Pratt sells it had me holding back the tears and his Ravenger Funeral was an emotional spectacle! There is so many more things I could talk about in regards to this movie and I cannot wait to discuss it more in the coming weeks!
