Guy Ritchie Interested in Directing a Future ‘Suicide Squad’ Movie

In a recent interview with Variety, Guy Ritchie revealed his interest in working on Suicide Squad 2

In the recent interview regarding Ritchie’s new film, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Guy Ritchie was asked about his impression of modern Hollywood’s superhero craze and if he’d ever been approached to be involved in one:

Regarding, you know, just the idea of superhero movies, like I said, you’re set up at Warner Bros. I mean I’m just guessing that maybe they’ve come to you for some of these titles in the past that they’re putting out there in the DC universe. But, what I’m curious about is, you know you maintain your own voice throughout your career and so how do you feel about navigating that modern climate of all of these superhero movies? Do you feel like you might need to play that game at some point, or like, how do you feel about that?

Ritchie responded with interest but explained it had to feel right:

It’s a good question actually. And if I find a tone that I’ll go ‘Oh I like that,’ I’d quite fancy doing Suicide Squad 2 because I thought I could do a good job with it. So I’m up for – I can’t do it because I’m doing something else –  but, I’m not – I’m a guy that likes to work so I’m gonna work. And I’ll work with whatever I can to make it work. I’m not an absolutist about what a genre is so I’m not a no-man, I’m a yes-man when it comes to making something manifest. That said, I just want it to be interesting; I want it to feel fresh; I want it to feel different; I want it to feel something that is worth me taking my fifteen dollars to…the cinema and go ‘Aw that was worth it’…I felt I could really do something with that.

Ritchie’s response demonstrates an interest in the superhero genre, specifically those of the Suicide Squad tone. But he wants it to be his film and be worthwhile for audiences to sit through. Although he won’t be working on the sequel due to another project, Ritchie could work on another film later, his interviewer later suggested.
