Logan is still one of 2017’s most popular and acclaimed films, with much praise being directed at its intense, emotionally driven plot and performances. Turns out, one of last year’s breakout stars tried out to be a part of it.
11 year-old Dafne Keen played the role of Laura, or X-23, to perfection in the film, but Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown tried her hardest to make it her own.
In an interview with Variety, she spoke about how she auditioned for the film while filming Stranger Things, even testing against Hugh Jackman.
“I went for it. It meant so much to me. I was filming Stranger Things, and I was like, ‘This is gonna be amazing, I’m gonna really prepare,’ and I sat in my room reading the lines. And honestly, for me, I felt so – I felt an actor, in the audition room, hitting Hugh Jackman, and James Mangold sitting right in front of me.”
It’s easy to see how Brown could’ve played Laura. Similar to her role as Eleven, both are superpowered children kept as lab experiments and raised in isolated captivity. Both are intense and powerful roles, which is what both actresses ended up giving in their pieces. Dafne Keen did an amazing job, but it’s interesting to think about what could’ve been.
