“Batman v Superman” Early Concept Art Showcases Batsuits that Could Have Been

Concept artist, Jerad S. Marantz recently shared on Instagram some art he worked on for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The photos are of different styles for a Batman suit he worked on for Michael Wilkinson, thew costume designer. Although they weren’t directly used for the movie, it is definitely interesting to see where the suit’s inspiration came from.

The art includes designs of a highly technical and well-armored Batsuit, much like that of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. It even has the same bat symbol. Also featured are designs of a suit much like the one actually used, but with more armor and a different symbol of a bat. Where the movie’s symbol took inspiration from The Dark Knight Returns, this symbol’s design is less reminiscent of any one Batman symbol, but it still retains the iconic look.

You can check out the designs below:

Batman v Superman– It’s been nearly two years since Superman’s (Henry Cavill) colossal battle with Zod (Michael Shannon) devastated the city of Metropolis. The loss of life and collateral damage left many feeling angry and helpless, including crime-fighting billionaire Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck). Convinced that Superman is now a threat to humanity, Batman embarks on a personal vendetta to end his reign on Earth, while the conniving Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) launches his own crusade against the Man of Steel.
