After the Season 3 finale of the hit CW TV show ‘The Flash’, fans have been wondering what would happen to Barry Allen after entering the speed force. Flash himself Grant Gustin has talked about how his character will be a changed man after the Season 4 premiere.
When Season 4 starts, 6 months will have past since the finale. Lots of things have changed, including the dynamic of the Flash team. Iris West will be the “leader”, as they continue protecting Central City. How exactly Barry Allen would fit into all of this is unknown, but the actor himself has now teased what happens to him.
Grant Gustin was speaking with Entertainment Weekly, where he talks about how Barry was affected by his experience.
- “The way I see it is, time is non-linear and everything is happening at once in the Speed Force. In someways he’s had an awakening and he’s had a rebirth. Our first episode is called ‘Reborn,’ and it is a rebirth for Barry, but he’s kind of scrambled, too, because he’s experienced so much so quick over the course of six months, even though for him it was an eternity. He’s not Barry when we see him for the first time.”
From the sounds of it, seems like Barry will in fact be returning pretty soon into the season. The first episode will deal with him as a changed man, but it’s not clear he returns from the speed force right away. One can assume it does, either way he will certainly be a different character.
Although he has been in the speed force for 6 months, for him it’s been an eternity. One potential problem with this could be how we probably won’t see what happened in the speed force. This puts a lot of pressure on the actor, Grant Gustin will have emotionally portray a change that we as the audience haven’t seen. But it’s possible and I can’t wait to see if he pulls it off this October.
The Flash returns Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. ET.
