If there is one character in Deadpool 2 that audiences are more excited to see besides the lead himself, its Cable. Ever since a bathrobe wearing Deadpool confirmed that Cable would appear in the sequel during the after credit scene to the first film- fans have been dying for more concrete information. Even though there is still less than a year’s time before the film’s release next June, director David Leitch has managed to squeeze in more information about actor Josh Brolin’s performance as Cable to the public.

During an interview with IGN last week at San Diego Comic-Con Leitch had to say this:

“When he graciously agreed to do the role, Ryan and I were through the roof; we love him. He’s such a great actor, he brings a humanity to Cable, but he also has the depth of acting chops to hang with the comedy when needed. He’s bringing that character to life in the short 12 days we’ve been shooting and I couldn’t be happier.”

This could not be more pleasing to here coming from the director himself. It is interesting to see Leitch comment on the balance of comedy in the film. Cable is almost a tonal polar opposite to Deadpool and hearing that Brolin’s performance includes a balance of comedy is fantastic. This hints that the relationship and interactions between these two will truly be a collision of inner character.

Josh Brolin is a very busy man with his work as Thanos in the next two Avengers films. With Leitch’s comments we can also be safely assured that Brolin has found a way to craft another unique comic book character performance that is unlike his previous work. Seeing Brolin’s talents range from both Cable and Thanos next year is going to be an amazing sight to see. If Leitch is already so pleased with only twelve days into filming, it should be fun to see what else he has to express as the production continues.

The anticipated sequel is currently shooting in Vancouver with a script penned by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Much of the original cast is expected to return with other new additions such as Zazie Beetz as Domino.
