Warner Bros.’ most recent venture to the DCEU, ‘Wonder Woman, was a smashing success not only in the box-office, but critically and culturally. Soon after, WB. noticed what they had on their hands so they decided they were going to push for the Oscars. While some don’t think it’s Oscar worthy, compared to ‘The Dark Knight’, one could argue it’s the most worthy comic-book film this year so far.
Yes I know, ‘Logan‘ was fantastic but it certainly didn’t have the same impact as the ‘Wonder Woman’. Months after film’s release, people are still talking about it. It’s a huge win for female superheros, and it has set a new bar for the rest of the DC Extended Universe.
“It’s an amazing honor,” Jenkins admitted. “It was never what we thought. You don’t make a movie like this assuming it would happen so, wow, it is an honor.”
The studio is pushing for the biggest awards, Best Director and Best Picture. If nominated either of those, it would be a first for the Superhero genre. I personally don’t think the Oscars are willing to do that yet but I’m hoping they realize how much the film has impacted modern cinema.
