When it was revealed that Superman would be coming back from the dead for Justice League, many fans jumped to the conclusion that Henry Cavill would be sporting a black variant of the suit like the one Superman wears when he returns from the dead in the comics. The possibility of this has been getting slimmer and slimmer, though, as we have neared closer to the release date of the movie. Promotional material has been released featuring Superman, but his black suit is nowhere to be seen. Just when I thought there was no hope, an image from some Justice League merchandise surfaced online, and it may confirm the inclusion of Superman’s highly anticipated black suit.

The image showcases several figures released by Mattel, and the notable thing is the appearance of Superman with a black suit:

Superman is featured with both his classic suit and his black suit. This could confirm that he will have both suits in the movie, but let’s not get our hopes up.

While this does appear to be a legit image, toys don’t always speak the truth of the movie. Toy companies often make merchandise with concepts that never appear on screen. This could also simply be just a variation on their other figure, which companies tend to do.

The most most recent time a toy company produced merchandise that was nowhere to be seen in the film was with Hot Toys’ Imposter Joker. The figure was tied in with Suicide Squad, and it features Joker wearing a variation of the batsuit with his own Joker twist. It had many fans anticipating its inclusion in Suicide Squad, but alas, it wasn’t featured.

This isn’t to say that we won’t be seeing the Black Suit Superman in Justice League at all, though. Let’s not forget that Henry Cavill posted this image on his Instagram more than a year ago teasing the black suit:

Justice League releases in theaters on November 17th of this year.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s (Henry Cavill) selfless act, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) enlists newfound ally Diana Prince to face an even greater threat. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to recruit a team to stand against this newly awakened enemy. Despite the formation of an unprecedented league of heroes — Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash — it may be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
