After a two year pause on the show, HBO has officially brought back True Detective for a third season, and from the looks of it, it seems they are more than making up for the mediocre second season. After news reports from earlier this year about a new actor to star in the anthology series, THR has reported an official synopsis for the third season, as well as an announcement of the new director joining the series, Jeremy Saulnier.

Saulnier’s addition to the show is a welcome one, as his previous work on films such as Green Room and Blue Ruin shows that he has the talent necessary to make quality episode for the HBO series. Below, you can read the synopsis for True Detective Season 3:

Season 3 of True Detective will tell the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods. Ali will play the lead role of Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas.

It is evident from the synopsis that this season of true Detective is already likening itself more to the show’s first season, which also took place over two different time periods. With season three taking place in three, the narrative and crime that spans these three different decades will no doubt be an interesting watch, especially with such powerful talent as Oscar winning Ali playing the lead role. After a successful first season and an okay second, True Detective is looking to have a sucsessful and interesting third season, thanks to the talent in front of, and behind, the camera.
