News broke yesterday that Colin Trevorrow was departing ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’. This would be major news even without the fact that Chirs Lord and Phil Miller were let go from the ‘Han Solo’ spinoff film earlier this year, making this trend for Lucasfilm. It is now being reported that script issues were the downfall of the relationship between Trevorrow and Lucasfilm.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, script issues have plagued the development of ‘Episode IX’. Trevorrow has been given multiple attempts at the screenplay but with no success, it seems. Last month, Lucasfilm tabbed Julia Roberts-Jacob Tremblay to come work on the script, possibly spelling danger for Trevorrow.
Sources went on to say that the working relationship between Trevorrow and Lucasfilm became unsalvageable. Head of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy was reportedly not eager to deal with another broken director relationship after the debacle with Lord and Miller.
Fans began calling for Trevorrow to be let go from the film after the poor reception to his most recent film, ‘The Book of Henry, which was critically panned. Although, it appears it was his own writing and not the film that sealed his fate.
