There has been a lot of controversy regarding Episode IX. First it was revealed that Colin Trevorow has stepped down as director, and just today it was revealed that JJ Abrams would be returning to write and direct it. The movie originally had a release date of May 24, 2019, but the Star Wars Twitter just revealed that the date has been pushed back to December 20, 2019.
While I’m sad that we have to wait a whole 7 months for the movie to come out, I’d rather that JJ Abrams have time to fully develop the movie than it be rushed. Episode VIII had a release date for May of this year originally, but it was also pushed back to December. Looks like December will always be Star Wars month, with the exception of the Han Solo movie, which is being released on May 25th of next year.
The sequel to Wonder Woman comes out on December 13th of 2019, so Episode IX could be detrimental to that movie’s box office.
