News of Daniel Craig returning to the role of James Bond for ‘Bond 25’ left only one major question, who would direct the 25th installment of the ‘Bond’ franchise? According to Daily Mail, Craig has set his sights on of the hottest directors in Hollywood, Denis Villeneuve.
It was reported some time ago that Villeneuve was on the shortlist of directors up to helm the next ‘Bond’ film along with Yann Demange and David Mackenzie. According to Daily Mail’s sources, Villeneuve has discussed directing the project with Craig himself, as well as producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.
Although, a wrench may have been thrown in Craig’s plan yesterday after it was reported that Villeneuve was in talks to direct an upcoming Cleopatra biopic for Sony. The director is also developing a ‘Dune’ remake, adding another major project to his slate.
Villeneuve has been a director on the rise since 2015 with his hit ‘Sicario’, which he followed up with the Oscar-nominated ‘Arriva,’ and the upcoming ‘Blade Runner 2049’, which is receiving major buzz ahead of its October release.
As much as Craig and likely the rest of Hollywood would love to see Villeneuve’s take on 007, it’s unlikely with all he has coming up he would be able to follow the films filming schedule and hit the November 2019 release date.
