The second trailer for The Last Jedi just released, and it’s full of stuff to speculate about so let’s get right into it. This trailer seemingly reveals some big plot points so read at your own risk.

Rey is going Dark

The biggest and most obvious thing to take away from the trailer is that it looks like Rey is going to the Dark Side. Many have been speculating this for a while, but we now have some information to go off of.

The trailer starts with Snoke saying,

“When I found you, I saw raw untamed power, and beyond that, something truly special.”

Many will think that Snoke is talking to Kylo Ren here, but I actually think he could be talking to Rey. She is seen immediately after he says this in the trailer, and she even has a line which reflects this,

“Something inside me has always been there, and now it’s awake and I need help.”

There is a lot of emphasis on something being inside Rey, and Snoke definitely knows it. I think Rey could be talking to Snoke here, not Luke (She also may be talking to Kylo Ren, but I’ll get to that later). There is a shot from a showdown between the two of them where I think this dialogue could take place where he says,

“Fulfill your destiny!”

Rey may have a dark heritage that Snoke knows about, and he is tempting her to embrace it here and “fulfill her destiny.” It looks like he may be showing her Dark force visions here or just flat our torturing her. In this moment, Rey will either reject the Darkness, or fully embrace it.

There’s also many lines and looks from Luke which point to this being a possibility. He mentions a lot how she has a tremendous amount of power, and it scares him. He is shown looking scared and in awe at her power a couple times in the trailer.

“I’ve seen this raw strength only once before. It didn’t scare me enough then. It does now.”

Here we see a reference to raw power again. Luke is likely referring to Kylo Ren when he says he has seen it once before, and this time he probably doesn’t want to make the same mistake again. Rey definitely has something special inside her, and Luke doesn’t want to be the one responsible for unleashing it in a bad way.

Luke also says at another time,

“This is not going to go the way you think”

Perhaps at this point Rey has embraced the Dark Side and Luke is now warning her of the dangers to come.

Then there’s the moment at the end. Rey says,

“I need someone to show me my place in all this.”

Kylo Ren is then shown and he holds out his hand. This could always be edited to be a fake out, where Rey is talking to someone else, but I don’t think that’s the case here. The lighting and setting look to similar.

Could Rey be seeking Kylo Ren’s assistance due to her conflicting emotions? Perhaps Kylo Ren takes Rey to Snoke and this is when they have their confrontation. There is something that is throwing me off, though. Rey looks to be wearing her outfit from training on Ahch-To. From what we’ve seen so far, it looks like Rey changes her outfit into the darker slings after she leaves Ahch-To.

Rey’s training outfit:

Rey’s post training outfit:

This outfit change is kind of throwing me in a loop. Perhaps her confrontation with Kylo Ren takes place on Ahch-To.

Kylo Ren also says this during the trailer, and I think he’s talking to Rey at this moment, trying to subdue her,

“Let the past die. Kill it. That’s the only way to become what you’re meant to be”

Kylo Ren is going Light

People have been speculating this since the first one, but there’s some new information here that may suggest it. He is seen smashing his helmet so he probably still has conflicting emotions. I actually think this is why we see his helmet destroyed in the first trailer, and this could be the moment he goes fully over to the Light.

There’ also this line,

“Let the past die. Kill it. That’s the only way to become what you’re meant to be”

Earlier I said he could be talking to Rey here, but perhaps this is him talking to himself trying to motivate himself to go to the Light (of course he could also be motivating himself to throw away the Light and go fully Dark).

I personally don’t think he should go over to the Light, but if they had Rey go to the Dark simultaneously, then that would very interesting and unlike anything we’ve seen before.

Kylo Ren kills Leia

The trailer also sets it up so that Kylo Ren does a lot of damage to to the Resistance base, and it even hints that he kills his mom, General Leia.

I actually don’t think Kylo kills Leia here. My thought is that Leia is sensing his presence, which is why she looks disturbed. Kylo Ren shoots down the base, and his last target is the hanger where his mom is, but I don’t think he’ll have the power to push the button. He still feels the call to the Light and probably has a lot of guilt from killing Han. This moment will determine wether he is truly Light or Dark.

Rey and Kylo Ren are related/connected

There is less evidence to prove this, but a lot of it comes from the word choice. Harkening back to what Luke said, he compares Rey’s power to that of Kylo Ren.

“I’ve seen this raw strength only once before. It didn’t scare me enough then. It does now.”

Very rarely in the Star Wars universe are there two people with this much power at the same time, so it may not be a coincidence. Maybe Rey is the daughter of Han and Leia, but more interestingly, what if they are both connected through Anakin Skywalker? Rey is the Light side of the prophecy and Kylo Ren is the Dark side. This one is a bit of a stretch and very unlikely, but it’s still interesting to think about.

Kylo Ren and Rey destroy the Jedi temple and artifacts on Ahch-To

This one is a lot but I think there’s actually a lot to support this so bear with me. I’m going to be using a lot of information that I previously mentioned.

We’ve seen this shot before, and everyone has assumed that it’s from a flashback of Kylo Ren destroying the Jedi temple and Padawans under Luke’s training. But what if it’s not a flashback?

Screen Shot 2017-10-09 at 11.45.01 PM.pngScreen Shot 2017-10-09 at 11.45.11 PM.png

What if this is the last surviving location of ancient Jedi artifacts that are being destroyed on Ahch-To?

Jedi Artifacts

What if the ones who are destroying it are none other than Kylo Ren and Rey? I think the final scene of the trailer takes place here. Rey’s outfit here points to the Kylo and Rey confrontation taking place on Ahch-To where she’s training. This would explain why there are flames behind Kylo. I think Kylo finds Luke and Rey’s location and goes there to destroy the Jedi artifacts, and instead of stopping him, Rey submits to her temptations and joins him.

Screen Shot 2017-10-09 at 10.49.15 PM.pngScreen Shot 2017-10-09 at 10.49.24 PM.png

This could be where Rey says,

“Something inside me has always been there, and now it’s awake and I need help.”

Perhaps Luke has not fulfilled Rey’s needs because he knows how powerful and Dark she could become, so she seeks Kylo’s help here, and then he responds,

“Let the past die. Kill it. That’s the only way to become what you’re meant to be”

I think this could be the moment of Rey’s betrayal of Luke, and when she fully embraces the Dark side and joins Kylo.

Is Rey going Dark? Only time will tell. Check out our trailer breakdown here.

  1. I really like your predictions and the evidence you use for them. However have you ever thought of Luke joining the dark side… The original movie script for return of the jedi has Luke putting on Vader’s mask, and he says,” I am Vader now”. It could be possible Luke turned and he burned the temple

    • I originally thought that but this trailer doesn’t really give us a lot of hints towards that, however, Luke has looked eerily dark in the promotional material
