Disney has revealed today the main cast for the upcoming Jon Favreau directed, live action film adaptation of Disney’s ‘The Lion King’. The cast features some great new additions, and confirms some rumors that had been swirling around for a while in regards to casting choices. Disney provided the following picture in regards to the film:
The only member of what is a star-studded cast to be featured in the original film is James Earl Jones, as he is set to reprise his role as Mufasa. Another piece of the original film that is set to return is Composer Hans Zimmer, as he is set to return to compose the score for this new live-action version of the animated classic. The cast bodes very well, as it includes stars such as: Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonce Knowles Carter as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Alfre Woodard as Sarabi, John Oliver as Zazu, Billy Eichner as Timon, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, among many others. It’s important to note that the majority of this cast has a comedic background, meaning that the film could go in a more comedic route.
The pairing of Billy Eichner & Seth Rogen as Timon and Pumba (respectively) really is A+ casting in my opinion. Eichner certainly has the charisma to pull off the character, as well as Rogen with his voice and demeanor. The cast itself is just top quality, as you would expect for a big Disney film like this. It will be interesting to see the different portrayals of the characters from the animated classic. The film is shaping up to be a technical juggernaut for Disney, but if we take the opinions of the footage shown at D23, then we are in for a beautiful journey in July 2019.
