Last week, The Legends added one more to their ranks as Zari and her special amulet, which is curiously linked to Amaya’s, joined the team. The Water Witch AKA Kuasa made her intentions very clear as she attempted to get access on Zari by any means necessary. The battle was one hell of a thrill ride and ended with Amaya seeing more of her true purpose in the modern world as well as provided some good laughs with Nate getting a little high off the special potion they drank to discover that truth.
This week, Ray dies.. as a child. That’s right Legends fans: we’re finally getting to meet the little nerd that has been living inside of The Atom since we first met him in third season of ‘Arrow.’
This episode starts out with a young Ray Palmer running from federal agents in 1988. He narrowly escapes them with a total Indiana Jones move sliding under a door. He says “you won’t hurt me. I’m just a kid.” Until he goes to snatch one of their kids and a shot is fired. Back on the Waverider, adult Ray is trying to get the team to grow closer with a few team-building exercises. After urging Mick to do a trust-fall, he disappears and Gideon informs the team that he died back in 1988. He disappears on Halloween and the team travels back to the day before he disappeared and he comes back with a positive outlook on his own death.
Zari is totally shocked by Ray’s continued use of the power of positive thinking. The team watch the young Ray to try and keep him from disappearing. A hilarious interaction shows a young Ray stealing a bunch of candy bars right in front of Mick and Jax. OH MY GOD RAY PALMER THINGS HIS BULLIES WERE HIS FRIENDS. What a perfect little cinnamon roll..
Turns out. Young Ray has been housing a baby Dominator..
You remember the Dominators, right? The mind controlling aliens who tried to kill all Metahumans in last year’s Arrowverse Crossover. This is not good.
The team concocts a plan to try and steal the baby Dominator away from young Ray and Jax is suspicious of Professor Stein’s true motives after Zari accuses him of “wanting to be anywhere but this ship.” Nate and Ray continue to bond over Bill Joel over the communication devices as Ray and Zara close in on the baby Dominator.
Turns out, young Ray was not only shoplifting to care for the baby Dominator, he’s also skipping school to take care of THE CUTEST LITTLE MUSICAL-LOVING CREATURES EVER. Listen… I know this Dominator grows up to be a huge terrorist but like this thing is super cute.
Ray’s mom is not only rather attractive but she’s also very worried about her nerdy son who spends all his time inventing or bringing home strays. Ray hears this and decides to run away. Zari is right on his trail.
While Sara is searching for the Time Bureau, she finds an actual grown Dominator and she gets wrecked. After that, the federal agents have arrived take Zari, young Ray, and the baby Dominator. They begin to torture and probe the baby. Meanwhile, Jax and Mick discover some secret work done by Professor Stein and think he’s a traitor. Instead, he’s been in contact with his daughter who is pregnant with his first grandchild. Jax and Mick hear his and decide to steal the Waverider to get him back.
In one of the most heartwarming scenes in the show’s history, Zari uses her amulet to let Ray’s bicycle fly and get the alien baby Dominator back to its mother before she kills everyone. The reunion is heartwarming and promising and makes even Sara shed a tear. From this scene, the show cuts right from the baby Dominator and to Professor Stein holding his first grandchild. Ray gets to tell him mom that he thought she did a very good job and Zari gets to comfort young Ray and realize that she is very happy to be with her friends.
The whole team (including Zari in costume) goes trick-or-treating with young Ray.
With Victor Garber leaving the show to begin his return to the Broadway show, it looks as if the first seeds are being sown for a new Firestorm. We still have no idea as to what brings Constantine into the fold, but Zari is STILL here and is continuously changing the game. This season continues on the trend started in season 1 and is full of twists and turns and a whole lot of action.
Legends of Tomorrow airs on Tuesdays on The CW at 9/8c.
The Legends learn that Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh) will die because they broke time, causing them to race back to 1988 to try and save his life. When they arrive, they are surprised to learn that young Ray Palmer has befriended a time-displaced baby Dominator putting him in harm’s way with the government and the Dominator’s mother. New to the ship and missions, Zari (Tala Ashe) must find her place and learn to trust the team. Meanwhile, Stein (Victor Garber) begins working on a secret project on the ship which makes Rory (Dominic Purcell) and Jax (Franz Drameh) suspicious.
