Variety has reported that Warner Bros and the J.R.R. Tolkein estate are in negotiations with Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos to create a series based on ‘The Lord of the Rings’ series. The potential deal is said to still be in “early stages”.
The series has been shopped around and Amazon is now in position to earn the rights. Amazon has a roster of original series, which includes the popular ‘Man in High Castle’. A ‘Lord of the Rings’ series, however, would mark a significant jump in brand recognition for the streaming service.

Warner Bros. has, of course, produced six blockbuster films based on the series of novels. The final film in the series ‘Battle of the Five Armies’ was just released in 2014 and marked the end of ‘The Hobbit’ trilogy, which acted as a prequel to the original ‘Lord of the Rings trilogy.
