Since the very beginning of season on of ‘Daredevil,’ Marvel fans have widely considered Wilson Fisk the greatest, most complete villain in the MCU, a list that also includes Loki, Ultron, and Kilgrave. Fans were understandably disapointed when he was not hyped for the second season, taking a backseat to The Punisher and Elektra instead.

However, when he made a surprise appearance, revealing he had spent the past year and considerable resources to become the true Kingpin. The famous quote at the end of the episode, after he pummeled Frank Castle to a bloody pulp in season 2, episode 9, resonated with fans and had them desperate for the big return of Fisk.

“You see, when I’m finally let out of this cage… it won’t be to wage war. It will be to win one.”

Confirmed on the Twitter page of the man himself, Wilson Fisk is coming back to claim what he believes is rightfully his: Hell’s Kitchen.

The news of Daredevil’s death during the events of ‘The Defenders’ has surely made it to the ear of Fisk in prison. It would seem the only thing standing in the way of his dominance is no more. (As those of us who watched the post-credits scene of the final episode of ‘The Defender,’ that may not be the case.)

The cliffhanger of ‘The Defender and the set-up makes it seem like ‘Daredevil’ is heading in the direction of the “Born Again” storyline Marvel comics, which debuted in 1986. The story by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli details Daredevil’s descent into insanity and destitution at the hands of the Kingpin, as well as his subsequent struggle to build a new life for himself. As of now, this is all specuation and it is unclear if the third season will adapt that comic arc.
