Wonder Woman has completely dominated the domestic and worldwide box office, breathed new life into the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) film franchise, and SMASHED film records in the process of it all. This week marks the end of the film’s monumental run at the domestic box office here in the States and the numbers don’t lie.
With a total gross of $412,563,408, Wonder Woman has given both DC Entertainment and Warner Bros Pictures a lot to be proud of. First, that number sets the record for highest grossing film ever directed by a female. Patty Jenkins, the critically acclaimed director of Wonder Woman, is going to be highly sought after following this incredible achievement and, hopefully, female directors will begin to receive more praise and and work in Hollywood.
This remarkable feat also makes Wonder Woman the highest grossing superhero origin film in both the domestic and worldwide box offices. This is amazing given the competition including Iron Man (2008), Spider-Man (2002), and Deadpool (2016).
On top of all that, Wonder Woman, the fourth film within the still blossoming DCEU, is now the highest grossing film within that particular film franchise; topping Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and Suicide Squad (2017).
Patty Jenkins herself responded to the news on Twitter. Check out her reaction below:
With the release of Justice League just right around the corner, producers, actors, and executives under the DC/Warner Bros umbrella have plenty to celebrate as they look to break their own records with the first live-action cinematic team-up of legendary DC superheroes Batman, Cyborg, Aquaman, The Flash, and Wonder Woman herself.
Gal Gadot will be reprising her role as Wonder Woman in Justice League.
