The excitement of DC characters Cyborg and Aquaman making their long awaited live-action cinematic debuts in the upcoming Justice League is reaching a fever pitch. They will arrive on the scene just in time to assist Batman in saving the post-death-of-Superman world from an alien invasion.
However, as revealed by the men playing these iconic characters, Zack Snyder and company has been sowing the seeds for their debut for quite some time.
In a recent discussion with the folks over at DC ALL ACCESS, Ray Fisher revealed a clever Cyborg Easter egg in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and praised the continuity within a shard cinematic universe:
“I think the beautiful thing is the connectivity,” said Fisher. “Because if you look at Batman v Superman, when Gotham City University is getting destroyed by Metropolis [in football] 50 to nothing. If you track it back timeline wise, that would have been just around the time Victor Stone, who was their all-star quarterback, got into his accident and was no longer able to be a part of the team.”
“So they started getting run,” added Ben Affleck.
“They needed Viccy Stone to come help,” Fisher concluded.
While it is indeed a small momentary hint towards the future, the fact that Zack Snyder intentionally included this cut-sequence during the film’s introduction to Batman shows just how far in advanced he had planned his version of the DC’s super-team.
After this revelation from Fisher and Affleck, Jason Mamoa, who plays Aquaman in the upcoming Justice League, chimed in on a previous discussion he had with Snyder regarding his own character:
“I’ll give you a cool little thing that’s not in this movie, but what Zack told me his idea for what he was doing for Aquaman,” said Momoa. “In Man of Steel, when Henry is saving, on the oil rig, he’s holding that up. And all the sudden you just see him, he kinda floats up on the ocean. Snyder’s like, ‘I had Aquaman save him, so that they did cross paths at one point.’ So when Bruce goes, ‘Have you heard of Superman?’ I’m like, I have. We have crossed paths.”
Zack Snyder had to sit-out most of post-production for Justice League due to an a tragedy that struck his family, but his plans for the entire universe was fleshed out long before Joss Whedon took the proverbial wheel.
These are some fun anecdotes that will surely convince many movie fans to fire up the old blu ray player and see if they can catch anymore subtle Easter eggs before attending the big premiere at their local theaters this weekend.
