After being one of the standout’s recently in DC’s Suicide Squad and currently one of the company’s most popular characters at the moment, Harley Quinn will now be getting a series of her own.
A new animated series featuring the famous villain(?) Harley Quinn has been officially announced for DC’s upcoming streaming service. Warner Bros. have ordered 26, half-hour episodes that will be made for adults and defined as a action-comedy. Harley Quinn will be made from Powerless executive producers Justin Halpern & Patrick Schumacker in conjunction with Dean Lorey of Warner Bros. Animation.
Warner Bros. have also released an image featuring art from the development phase of the upcoming animated series.
Check out the synopsis below:
Harley Quinn who has finally broken things off once and for all with the Joker and attempts to make it on her own as the criminal Queenpin of Gotham City. The series features Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy and a whole cast of heroes and villains, old and new, from the DC Universe.
Deadline reports that Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie is the top choice to voice Quinn herself. Nothing is set in stone yet, but they are reporting that she will sure be approached to take the role. No release date has been set, it’s assumed that the streaming service from DC will debut early next year. I would say expect another announcement regarding more details about when it will be releasing specifically soon.
Another animated series from DC is usually never a bad thing, and it featuring Harley Quinn in an action-comedy doesn’t sound bad. If the art ends up being similar to the one that they officially released, I think the production value surely shine through.
Harley Quinn is expected to drop sometime 2018 on DC’s upcoming streaming service.
