‘JUSTICE LEAGUE’ Almost Featured A Second New God

It’s a well-known fact that Justice League underwent many cuts during its path to the big screen. Well it now seems that a classic DC villain was cut from the film entirely, specifically the evil New God Desaad.

During a Reddit AMA with a visual effects artist from the film it was revealed Desaad was originally in the movie and, “looked grim reapery, skull like with a big cloak.”

Desaad, like Steppenwolf, is a servant of Darkseid and hails from Apokolips. It was not revealed how much the character was to be featured in the film, if he would have worked with Steppenwolf for the entirety of the story or if he would only be featured in the flashback war scene.

Characters similar in appearance to Desaad were featured during the flashback, dressed in similar robes, but it was revealed by the effects artist they are not of any relation.

The character was most likely cut from the film as the film probably didn’t want to go too in detail to the lore of Jack Kirby’s Fourth World. Besides a quick namedrop of Darkseid, the film didnt go too far into the mythology of the New Gods.

Hopefully, as the DCEU develops over time we are able to see Desaad and other New Gods on the big screen.

Justice League is currently in theaters.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists newfound ally Diana Prince to face an even greater threat. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to recruit a team to stand against this newly awakened enemy. Despite the formation of an unprecedented league of heroes — Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash — it may be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
