Micheal Green, one of the men that penned 2011’s Green Lantern, has spoken on who he would want casted in the upcoming Green Lantern Corps movie. His pick is American God’s and The 100 actor Ricky Whittle.
When asked by Yahoo! who he would like to see next as the Green Lantern, Green answered:
“I’ll probably get angry texts if I don’t say what’s in my heart which is that Ricky Whittle would make a fantastic John Stewart.”
Green is a writer and executive producer for American God’s where Whittle is currently playing the star, Shadow Moon. Micheal Green got screenwriter credit with Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Micheal Goldberg. Green seemingly really wants another stab at a Green Lantern movie.
“I feel like my experience on Green Lantern is very much unfinished and there are stories to tell there. That was not a film that turned out the way we’d hoped going in and I think there is an appetite for a better version of that.”
There was plenty of Green Lantern Easter eggs in Justice League; there was even a scene of a Lantern helping the Amazon’s, Atlanteans, and humans fight Steppenwolf. We know there is currently a scheduled Green Lantern Corps film for 2020 as well. Green has already written one, and he wants a round two. The Green Lantern’s entrance to the DCEU is inevitable at this point.
This is what Green had to ultimately say on the matter of him joining in and writing the Green Lantern Corps screenplay:
“I think anything is possible, there are characters I love and I’d love to spend more time with.”
I don’t have any immediate plans for it now. I actually quite like all of the producers and executives involved in the DC films and at Warner Bros, some that I’ve known for a long time and some that I haven’t worked with for a long time and would be happy to again. Anything is possible but nothing is in the works.”
“I will say that my partners on Green Lantern, Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim, spent a lot of time talking about all the potential for subsequent Green Lantern films and I still love every idea that we discussed I don’t think they will ever come to fruition, not as we imagined them I don’t think. If there’s a Green Lantern Corps to be done it will be all new fresh thinking.”
Micheal Green may be the balance the DCEU is looking for in a screenwriter. Ricky Whittle may be the John Stewart we deserve. We will soon see what happens inside the DCEU as things push along post Justice League.
