There were reports last month that Disney was in talks to purchase large assets of 21st Century Fox, the company famously known for owning the rights to the X-Men and the Fantastic Four. This led many fans to believe that the X-Men could finally become intertwined in the MCU, but the deal ultimately fell through as a price could not be agreed upon. However, there is still a chance. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Disney has re-engaged talks with 21st Century Fox.
The talks reportedly focus on 21st Century Fox’s movie and tv assets as well as some U.S. cable networks, and the deal would most likely include the rights to the X-Men and the Fantastic Four.
Disney isn’t the only one interested, though. Comcast Corp. is apparently in the running with Disney, and Sony Pictures was reported to be in talks with Fox as well.
Rupert Murdoch and his family, who hold the interested 39% of 21st Century Fox’s voting shares, expect to make a decision by the end of the year. This means we will know very soon wether or not Disney will expand its Empire and if the rights of beloved characters will be returned to Marvel.
If these characters were moved to Disney, it is unclear how it would affect the main X-Men movie continuity, or if mature characters like Deadpool would be stripped of their R Rating.
