According to Deadline, Quentin Tarantino has pitched an idea to Paramount that got JJ Abrams interested to work with him on the film.
Deadline reports that Tarantino would direct and Abrams would produce. It is not reported as to who would pen the screenplay.
This is not the first piece of news in regard to Tarantino’s interest in a Star Trek film, as he mentioned in a TMZ “interview” that he would be willing to come out of retirement to direct a Star Trek film.
Deadline also mentions that Paramount has “declined comment” and the site has been currently unsuccessful in contacting Tarantino’s team for a statement.
Tarantino is currently working on a film set in 1960s LA around the time of the Manson murders and is planning on releasing the film on the 50th anniversary of the murders (August 19, 2019).
Abrams is currently working on Star Wars Episode IX and directed the first two of the recent Star Trek films and produced all 3. A fourth is in the works as well.
