(SPOILERS FOR JUSTICE LEAGUE)
Last month’s Justice League saw the return of Kal-El from the grave, after dying at the hands of Doomsday in Batman v. Superman. In the team-up film, Superman’s return was very different to what fans of the Death of Superman comic story were hoping for. In that story, Superman comes back to life not wearing his signature suit, but instead wearing a black and silver one. Well in Justice League‘s deleted scenes, the Man of Steel did indeed don his famous black suit from the comics.
Justice League cinematographer Fabian Wagner, known for his work in some of the biggest episodes of Game of Thrones, revealed in a recent interview that scenes including Superman’s iconic black suit were shot after all. In the theatrical cut, no suit like that is in sight, so it’s likely that the reshoots completely got rid of that aspect of Superman’s return.
“There were [scenes shot],” Wagner said. “It’s a cool looking costume. Sadly, we didn’t see that either in the final cut.”
He also mentions how the scenes cut were some of his favorites from the film, and it seems like he was quite disappointed they were removed in the final cut.
“Zack (Snyder) takes his time with telling the stories and I’ve always liked that about his movies. There are a few scenes that I was very much looking forward to seeing which unfortunately got cut.”
We previously reported a rumor that stated an evil and black suited Superman was originally included in the film. It seems like it was true so shout out to Mr. Sunday Movies for getting this early on.
I would’ve loved to not only see Zack Snyder’s full vision, but especially see Henry Cavill donning the classic black suit. Whether or not we’ll eventually see it someday is unknown, but I think Warner Bros. will likely release an extended cut so we’ll see.
