Still reeling from the tragic death of Professor Stein during the events of last week’s epic ‘Crisis on Earth-X’ crossover, the team welcomes the return of Leonard Snart, But it is not the Leonard Snart we know and remember. It’s the Leonard Snart from Earth-X.
Professor Stein is gone and hearts all over the world collectively broke because of it (this writer legitimately shed a few tears). *moment of silence*
A true hero.
Now on to this week’s episode. It begins with a young Martin Stein, in a Hanukkah sweater standing in line for a Beebo (the hottest new tout of 1992). He grabs it among the raging crowd and somehow runs into a Anachronism that transport him to a barbaric time.
Leo, who is the alias of Leonard Snart from Earth-X, is using a Professor Stein to try and help the team cope with the loss of a team member. Each Legend has different coping mechanisms. Jax, obviously, is taking this loss the hardest. Professor Stein was the glue that held the team together. Sara urges them to put all the sadness in a box and lock it because they have to save the world.
Looks like this week is Leif Erickson’s Vikings taking over the entire of North America, dubbing it New Valhalla. Nate and Jax discover Leif Erickson and his sister in a moment that has crazy historic significance. Jax finds out that the Anachronism is actually young Professor Stein who has been captured by the vikings.
Who worship… Beebo? Once again, Legends displays its unique knack for storytelling. Where else will you find a barbaric group of vikings who believe a child’s toy is a god and vow to conquer all of North America in an attempt to please him?
Side note: Leo is a gift to television.
Young Professor Stein is back on the Waverider and Jax is hellbent on revealing to him that he dies during a battle with Nazis from another earth. Ray, Zari, and Amara try and calm him down and, due to his grief, acts out in anger.
The Legends concoct a plan to try and infiltrate a yuletide celebration to steal the Beebo from the vikings before its world changing issues go into affect. Beebo Day has replaced Christmas in the future and The Legends, along with Agent Sharpe, has used booze to gain access to the yuletide celebration.
Agent Sharpe has a crush of Sara and Leo is actively trying to get Mick to stop drinking. Okay, after a few more scenes with Beebo. He is creepy as hell. Mick is attacked by Vikings and will undoubtedly be captured. Leo challenges him to not drink alcohol for 48 hours so getting captured by Vikings isn’t a bad way to spend sober.
Agent Sharpe and Sara are winning drinking games with vikings and Agent Sharpe reveals she is not the ‘husband type.’ The vikings believe when Beebo says “Beebo hungry” he is issuing violence and and death upon those prosecuted. Leo uses his gun to put out the fire on which Mick is to die on and it is discovered that Amaya and Nate are sneaking off with Beebo.
Zari and Jax are playing Mortal Kombat to try and distract themselves from the death of Professor Stein and find a loophole to try and show Young Martin that he will die at the hands of Nazis from another Earth in 2017.
The Legends try to take off with Beebo but are thwarted by vikings as Mick destroys Beebo and proves he is a false god.
Damien Dahrk shows up in full costume as he takes on the guise of Odin of Asgard..
As The Legends think they fixed the Anachronism, they have really caused an even worse one. Now Damien Dahrk has taken on the role of Odin and is now leading the charge of vikings to take over all of North America.
Jax has flown young Martin home and tries to give him a letter postmarked November 28, 2017. The day of Professor Stein’s death. Martin almost refuses but he gets convinced and now they play the waiting game. Elsewhere, Leo is trying to save Mick from his alcoholism with stories of Mick from Earth-X. They go back and forth and argue with one another like old pals. Mick is desperate for a drink, Leo is desperate for his friend.
Agent Sharpe reveals that Damien Dahrk and his daughter are running rampant on all of time and Rip Hunter is locked up in prison. Grodd is destroyed the Great Wall of China and The Time Bureau is terrified of Dahrk’s power. Damien Dahrk, once again, has consistently been a badass villain for the Arrowverse. From his dealings with The Green Arrow to his involvement in the Legion of Doom to his return due to Mallus and his unwavering power and hatred for the Legends, he has grown to be one of the most menacing characters on television and it’s refreshing to see a team of heroes forced to retreat and figure out exactly how they are going to defeat this threat.
Sara, after some time to think about what to do with Damien and his daughter, and shes come to the realization that she does not want to lose any other of the team members. She tells The Legends to take the Waverider and leave as she faces Dahrk alone.
The hypothetical scene does not end well. No hypothetical scene ends well. Dahrk is too damn strong for any of them. He and his daughter have convinced all of the vikings that he is a god.
Ray, as The Atom, brings Beebo to life to try and stop the vikings from attacking and and Mick and Leo show up and take Nora down! Damien uses his weird Odin powers to destroy everyone and tries to stop him from taking her to wherever Mallus reigns. Agents Sharpe show up and saves her from the wrath of all three.
“You cam back for me,” says Sara to Agent Sharpe as she might actually begin her first real relationship within the show.
Sara details her encounter with Mallus and Agent Sharpe finally believes in the existence of the deity. Jax is confused as to why Professor Stein still dies in 2017. Young Martin tells Jax that he will not ever read the letter because he cannot cheat death. He is clearly proud of the life he will live and his one wish is for Jax to live his own life and let Professor Stein go.
The heartbreak continues.
Sara seems to be the only one understanding Professor Stein’s loss and Jax begs Sara to leave the Waverider. He needs a ‘different kind of adventure.’ Jax is heartbroken and viewers are heartbroken along with him.
Jax gives his goodbye speech to the team during a Christmas dinner and makes his way off the ship in Central City 2017.
HE’S HERE!! JOHN CONSTANTINE IS HERE!! OH MY GOD!!
