Patrick Stewart Willing to Reprise Role in ‘Star Trek’ at Request of Quentin Tarantino

This week an announcement was made that Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction, Inglorious Basterds, the Kill Bill trilogy, and Django Unchained) will team up with JJ Abrams (Star Trek (’09), Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Super 8, Cloverfield, and 10 Cloverfield Lane) are teaming to bring an R rated Star Trek film. The film’s frontrunner for screenwriter is The Revanant’s Mark L. Smith. This has an original Star Trek member eager to rejoin the franchise.

Patrick Stewart has expressed interest in returning to the franchise at the request of Quentin Tarantino. He played Jean-Luc Picard for 15 years on television and film. He recently starred in Logan to give what was most likely his last performance as Charles Xavier. He recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about returning to Star Trek:

“People are always saying to me, ‘Will you be Jean-Luc Picard again?’ And I cannot think that would be possible, but there are ways in which something like that might come about.”

“But one of my dreams is to work with Tarantino. I admire his work so much, and to be in a Tarantino film would give me so much satisfaction. So, if he is going to direct something to do with Star Trek and there was the possibility of dear old Jean-Luc showing up again and doing that for Mr Tarantino, I would embrace it.”

“The one thing that characterizes all of his movies is that frame by frame, it always challenges, always demands your attention, always demands a very kind of open and generous response to what he does. I also love his sense of humor as a filmmaker. So yes, he would be my first choice.”

Working with Quentin Tarantino is an actual dream for Patrick Stewart, so this may be a huge possibility. Jean-Luc Picard is a beloved character among Star Trek fans, and his return would mean a lot to many of them. Maybe he could give it one last go just like he did Professor X in Logan. It would be satisfying to him and the fans. Either way, if Patrick Stewart wants to get involved that just made the Star Trek need even better!
