Ben Affleck Is Still Evaluating Returning As Batman; Wants To Direct A Batman Film

When it comes to the future of Ben Affleck’s Batman the future seems very uncertain. We have had so many conflicting reports about Ben Affleck appearing in future DC films it is difficult to tell what may happen. And this is true especially for the upcoming DCEU film The Batman which Ben Affleck was once set to star in and direct until he dropped out and Matt Reeves took over directorial duties.

After he stepped down as director reports about Affleck starring in the film began to pop up with the most recent saying Affleck will reprise his role in Flashpoint while Reeves will cast a new actor to star as the Caped Crusader in The Batman.

Recently however, during an interview following the release of Justice League Affleck has made new statements which cast even more confusion on his involvement in future DC films. When asked about his future as Batman and whether or not he’d be interested as returning in future DCEU films Affleck had this to say:

“For me, it’s interesting, and I always evaluate this stuff on the merit of the material. I want to direct a Batman movie, and I never got a script that I was happy with, so they are starting over and writing another script. And right now, I think a lot of different possibilities I think for the way the DC Universe could go, and I will just follow my interests in pursing that. And I know that I love working with this group of people, and it was a real joy for me to make this movie.”

Based on his comments it seems Affleck would still like to direct a solo Batman film as long as he was sure of the script, which may be why he passed on The Batman.

Hopefully though we can get a definitive answer from Warner Bros. and DC concerning Affleck’s future in the DCEU and whether he will once again suit up in the cape and cowl. – Jacob Campbell

Justice League is currently in theaters.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists newfound ally Diana Prince to face an even greater threat. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to recruit a team to stand against this newly awakened enemy. Despite the formation of an unprecedented league of heroes — Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash — it may be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
