Next year is without a doubt going to be a landmark year for comicbook films. Marvel Studios is releasing two of what are widely believed to be some of the most anticipated films of the entire year. No offense to Ant-Man and the Wasp, but I am obviously talking about Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War. If these films of course deviler a satisfying story- they are sure to be cultural phenomenons. One features an almost entire cast of color while the other is the beginning of a culmination to an almost ten year journey. We have gotten plenty of promotion for these two with plenty more kicking off in the new year. USA Today is starting off a little early with their countdown of top films to keep on your radar in 2018. New never before seen images were featured in this list.
Okoye (Danai Gurira) and Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) are featured in this still from Black Panther. Okoye leads Wakanda’s top security force- the all female Dora Milaje. They would put their lives down on the line to protect their homeland and people. Nakia on the other hand is described as a strong “war dog” who must ultimately choose where her loyalty lies when conflict rises.
Thor, Rocket Racoon, and Mantis are featured in this still from Infinity War. The trailer released last month ends with Thor meeting the Guardians of the Galaxy for the first time. It is safe to sssume that this image takes place before this confrontation. The summer convention footage revealed that the Guardians find an unconscious Thor in space. I saw the footage at D23 and this interaction in particular was a delight to see unfold. Teaming up the god of thunder with everyone’s favorite rag tag team of a-holes is probably my favorite grouping so far. Imagine what else can be in store that we still do not know.
Expect more images and information to hit the internet very soon in the new year. Both of these films come out sooner than you think- less than six months to be exact. Trust me, most of us are not ready for the first half of 2018.
