James Wan Teases Classic Revenge Story for ‘Aquaman’

Aquaman is one of the most anticipated movies of 2018. His appearance in Justice League was praised and criticized. Their were many complaints about his character development and only seeing Atlantis twice. This has raised eyebrows about his upcoming self titled solo film. James Wan has spoken about the film recently, and hinted at one of Aquaman’s greatest foes storylines.

Black Manta, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Baywatch, The Get Down, The Greatest Showman), “whose antagonism “is very primal, that classic revenge story,” Wan adds. “I love the simplicity of that human drive.”” (USA Today)

The storyline that seems like it may fit the most is Manta going after Aquaman for the accidental Death of his father. Manta’s father was likewise responsible for Arthur’s father’s death. There is a lot of animosity between the two which would make this story even more amazing. It would ultimately kind of have you see Aquaman in a different light and make you kind of choose between the two as to who is right. There is a lot of confusion in the story. It also seems as if Black Manta may be the only villain in the film.

Abdul-Manteen stated:

“It’s been about five days a week in the gym and doing fight training, too. I have a love-hate relationship with working out. I do not enjoy the experience when I’m doing it, but I never regret it. I think I’m in the best shape of my life.”

Basically, he hates the workouts but he loves the results.

When it comes to Aquaman, James Wan says:

“He doesn’t quite fit in, but as the story progresses, he realizes he’s the best of both worlds. Circumstances allow him to grow as a human being and then realize the bigger picture of it all and what it means to have these abilities.”

This will be an interesting film considering that we saw a bit of this in Justice League. Arthur’s character development will be a fun one, and finally getting to full on see Atlantis will be epic.
