Being cast in a superhero film is probably a monumental event in someone’s life. For a 15-year-old, it might be the coolest thing that has ever happened. Well at least in the case of Shazam star Asher Angel. Best known for his role on Disney Channel’s Andi Mack, Angel recently sat down with Circa News and discussed the casting process for the upcoming Warner Bros. movie.
Angel talked about how quickly he was able to be cast in the film and how comfortable he felt working with director David Sandberg:
“I was self-taping for it, and then they wanted to call me in for a test, so I came into Los Angeles, I tested with [director David Sandberg]; it was so much fun. I just felt so comfortable….And the next day I went into Warner Bros. to do one last scene in front of the execs and everyone, and two days later we were leaving to go from LA to Utah and we got the call.”
The young actor gave a brief description of what we should expect the character of Billy Batson to be like when Shazam hits theaters in 2019:
“Shazam is about a little boy named Billy Batson. He’s kind of gone through a hard time, and he finds out he’s capable of this superpower. By saying this one word, he can turn into an adult superhero and turn back into Billy Batson.”
