It feels like DC’s Justice League only released yesterday to many an expectant fan. But for some, the film wasn’t what they had dreamed it could be, mostly due to extensive studio interference. Lots of fans have hoped that after the film’s release we would eventually see a full Zack Snyder cut without the interference of the studio or Joss Whedon’s influence. But sadly it seems we may never see a Zack Snyder cut of Justice League. However, thanks to a number of new stills and concept art we now have a better idea of what the film could have been.
It’s no secret the flashback scene to the war between the Amazons, Atlanteans, and Man against Steppenwolf was supposed to much longer than the one we saw in the film. These new stills feature the ancient army of man charging into battle against the New God. And along with this is a look at the three armies standing triumphantly over the Parademons, with the King of Atlantis holding his trident in the air.
Overall Lois Lane had a rather minor role in the film, but this new still points to at least one more scene featuring her. So we are left to wonder was she meant to have a larger role in the original version of the film.
This scene is one of the saddest to see cut as it would have no doubt been great to see on-screen. The still features Cyborg and The Flash charging headfirst into battle with the Batmobile by their side.
As we said the flashback scene was meant to be much longer than the version we got. And this concept art gives us a look at what we could have had with a great look at Zeus, Ares, and Artemis, some of the Old Gods who helped in defeating Steppenwolf.
This new concept art features the League in the midst of battle as they took on the Parademon army. It’s safe to assume this art was some inspiration to the sequence in the film featuring the League fighting in the town.
While this new piece doesn’t offer anything new for us it does offer a great look at Superman’s new brighter suit.
Besides watching Batman take the Flying Fox into battle during the final act of Justice League we never really see it flown by anyone else. But this piece seems to feature Batman joined by Wonder Woman with Aquaman watching.
This still is very interesting as it may debunk a popular fan theory that Whedon changed the method of the Man of Steel’s resurrection. Some fans have theorized that Whedon changed the way in which Superman was revived, but based on this shot it looks like he kept that scene arguably the same.
This new concept art offers a whole new look for Steppenwolf far different from the version we got in the final cut of the film. It looks like it came straight out of a horror movie and would definitely have changed the film quite a bit.
This still features The Flash saving civilians from Steppenwolf and his Parademons. A scene that was going to be much longer but was changed after reshoots.
This new still shows a look at what was happening outside of the bank during Wonder Woman’s opening scene.
This still looks like it was going to take place during Batman’s confrontation with Aquaman. During the scene Bruce Wayne was originally going to offer the future King of Atlantis money for his help but it looks like the scene was cut.
This gorgeous art of Wonder Woman looks to be an early look for the Amazon that never made it into the final cut. A pity since this would have been a great look to see on-screen.
This still looks to be a look at Diana Prince during her conversation with Batman. The scene is also believed to be entirely of Joss Whedon’s design.
In what would have been an awesome scene to see in the film Batman is featured here using one of the Parademon’s cannon’s. We did get to see the Dark Knight use one of their guns in battle but that pales in comparison to what this would have looked like on-screen.
This scene is rather strange as it features a number of screens at S.T.A.R. Labs with a biohazard warning. Sadly though we may never know what this scene was for.
This concept art looks to feature Batman, Wonder Woman, and Cyborg in what seems to be an early design for the Knightcrawler.
This awesome shot of Aquaman features Arthur Curry wielding his quindent. Aquaman was one of the hits of the film and luckily we will get to see him again in this year’s Aquaman solo film.
This final piece looks to be an early design for a Parademon.Whats odd about it though is that it seems to feature the creature wielding a human assault rifle.
With all these stills and concept art it’s interesting to wonder what Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League would have looked like. But it seems for now we will just have to imagine it for ourselves. – Jacob Campbell
