Fans have known for awhile now that the upcoming next installment in the X-Men Film Franchise would be an adaptation of the infamous X-Men comic arc surrounding Jean Grey and her alter ego The Phoenix. However, what fans have not known is the identity of the film’s main villain played by Jessica Chastain.
Up until now, her character has been described as an “otherwordly shapshifter who comics into contact with the Phoenix.” Fans and journalists alike were quick to flip through the pages of Marvel Comics and take to the internet to fan cast Chastain as Lilandra Neremani, the Shi’ar Empress.
However, after having a conversation with Simon Kinberg, IGN is now reporting that her character will be known simply as Smith.
Is Kinberg pulling a JJ Abrams during the buildup to Star Trek Into Darkness when he kept the identity of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Khan under wraps until after the film’s release? The Smith name is sure to be a code name for Chastain’s killer character.
What do you think? Who do you think Jessica Chastain is playing? Let us know @superbromovies.
