One of Gary Oldman’s roles was that of Commissioner Gordon in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy. As far as the DCEU goes, Oldman hasn’t stayed too caught up with the recent releases. He recently won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in the ‘Darkest Hour’.
When interviewed by TooFab, he talked a bit on what he thinks of the new movies and who he would like to see play Batman. When asked, he said:
I would like to see someone like Joaquin Phoenix play it
The thought of Joaquin Phoenix playing Batman is unexpected but actually really intriguing. That being said, Oldman meant no harsh intent to Ben Affleck’s Batman. He really believes that the character really depends on who’s behind the camera. That being said as well, seeing Joaquin Phoenix play Batman would be pretty sweet.
There is a bit of controversy on how long Ben Affleck will be portraying the character with some stories being published saying that Warner Bros. wants to slowly usher out his Batman, which was then contradicted by Ben Affleck at SDCC where he praised the character.
With the 10 year anniversary of the Dark Knight trilogy coming in 2018, Oldman took the opportunity to give praise to Christopher Nolan and his brilliance in his ability behind the camera. Oldman said Nolan gave a ‘dead’ franchise ‘life’ and will forever be glad he was apart of such a great trilogy.
