Black Widow quickly became a fan favorite after her introduction in Iron Man 2 back in 2010, and fans have been clamoring for her own solo film ever since. It now looks like the fans’ prayers have finally been answered.
The Wrap is reporting that the movie (likely called Black Widow) will be written by Jac Schaeffer.
Schaeffer is most known for writing and directing 2009’s Tribeca Film TiMER as well as writing 2014s Blacklist pick The Shower starring Anne Hathaway. Her most recent work was the Disney short Olaf’s Frozen Adventure which played before last year’s Coco.
Scarlett Johansson has played the role of Black Widow for many years and through many stages and has proven she can hold a film of her own with movies such as Lucy.
Fans have been speculating that a Black Widow solo movie could take place in the past and show her origin. Hawkeye could even appear and fans could finally find out what happened in Budapest.
The film will likely release sometime in the 2020s.
Justin Kroll, a lead writer at Variety, revealed on Twitter that both Scarlett Johansson and Jac Schaeffer met with Marvel prior to this report which further adds to its validity.
The film should be officially announced by Marvel soon.
