This year’s upcoming DC television series is stacking up to tell the untold story of Superman’s family and how his grandfather wrestled with whether he should save Krytpon for the sake of his grandson. And while the show will be set in Krypton’s distant past it will feature some of DC comics most famous characters including Brainiac and Adam Strange. Along with these characters who will appear on the show, Doomsday is also being teased, however, he will apparently be more comic accurate than we have seen in prior live action adaptations.
Recently at TCA 2018 in LA DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns spoke at a presentation for Krypton and commented that the show is not bound by current DC universe properties, which allows the writers to tell the stories that they want. One such story will feature a comic accurate Doomsday as Johns said here,
“We get to do our own iteration of Doomsday, untethered to anything else, so we get to explore Doomsday in a way that hasn’t been done and is kinda more true to the comics.”
Doomsday has appeared twice before in previous live-action adaptations, Smallville and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Each of these appearances didn’t stay very true to the comic book source material and as such was met with mixed reactions from some fans. It will be interesting to see how the show adapts Doomsday, especially with Krypton‘s television budget. For now, though we will have to simply wait and see if the show can deliver on its promises.
