Earlier today the first official image of Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock in Sony’s upcoming Venom film was released. At first glance, it didn’t seem like the image offered much in terms of plot details but upon a further glance, it seems it may have confirmed the film’s villain and revealed some new plot details. IGN, who originally posted the image, has now offered up a zoomed in picture of Eddie Brock’s notepad which has a number of questions that offer up some interesting details.

Close-up of the text written in Eddie Brock's notebook in Venom.

The first entry reads,

“So how exactly does the Life Foundation go about testing its pharmaceuticals?”

This entry very plainly confirms the Life Foundation will be the film’s primary antagonist, which was teased earlier but not confirmed until now. As we know from the comics the Life Foundation is a shadowy survivalist group who believe the world will end in nuclear holocaust. The group’s goal is to rebuild society after the apocalypse, and during their comic book appearances created five of their own horrific symbiotes spawned from Venom – Agony, Phage, Riot, Lasher, and Scream.

The second entry reads,

“What about the allegations your empire is built on?”

This question seems to be rather straightforward. It is most likely directed at the companies president, Carlton Drake, who Riz Ahmed is believed to be playing based on leaked set photos.

The final entry reads,

“That you recruit the most vulnerable of us to volunteer for the testing that more often than not end up (killing) them?”

The question is partially obscured by Eddie Brock’s finger but this is what we have surmised it to say. This may yeild some of the film’s plot details as it points to the Life Foundation’s nefarious practices being a point of interest. It may mean that Venom could be set on stopping their evil ways in his own antihero way.

For now, though we will ultimately have to wait for Sony to release new information on the upcoming film. But it is great that this, previously mundane image, has offered so much information.
