As of right now, ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ is still being shown in theaters throughout the globe. Once it makes its way out, we then get to set our sights on ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ as well as the last untitled Star Wars film to wrap up the Skywalker trilogy. Once we get Episode IX, many will wonder what comes next?
There are rumors going around that Obi Wan Kenobi will get his own film, and there’s also word that Boba Fett might get one as well. However, there is no confirmation from the studio that such movies will take place. What is confirmed now, is a whole new trilogy directed by Rian Johnson himself. The ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ director was the one to throw the idea out and the studio liked it.
In Los Angeles last Thursday, LACMA brought about a special screening of ‘American Graffiti’ directed by the man who started it all, George Lucas. After the movie ended, there was a Q&A session with Rian Johnson. The writer and director did in fact comment a bit on his new separate trilogy by saying:
As we got to the end of Episode VIII, we had a great time working with Kathy and with Disney, and we kind of said, ‘How can we keep this party going? How can we keep working together?’ And I kind of threw out there, like the most interesting thing to me would be to tell a new story told over three movies where we go someplace else. And we go, kind of the potential of like a wide-open blue sky of, let’s go to a different part of the galaxy. Maybe a different time. I don’t know. Let’s meet some new characters and let’s figure out what Star Wars means separated from some of the inconography that we’ve associated it with. Let’s take it someplace else and see what that would be like. That just seemed like a really interesting question to ask.
From what it sounds like, we’re going to get a completely different take on the Star Wars we know. A whole new realm of characters, worlds, timelines, etc. exist out there and now we will get a trilogy out of it! The Last Jedi was a beautiful story which only makes me more excited that Rian Johnson will have such a large part in the Star Wars universe. It makes me wonder if his trilogy will have any involvement with what we’ve seen so far or if it will be a completely different story. He talks about how he wants to see what else the universe can tell us whilst separating it from the iconic saga we know of today. This gives him the chance to create something new, different, and what could be just as iconic years down the road.
Now it’s just a matter of time until we get more and more details on what he plans on doing. Are you excited to see what Rian Johnson has in store for us? Let us know over at SuperBroMovies!
