If you are a fan of the whole heist genre you might get a kick out of Den of Thieves. The movie is about California’s most successful bank robbers going against the LA County Sheriff’s Dept. in a game of cat and mouse. The robbers are trying to rob the most secure bank in LA which is the Federal Reserve Bank. I will be talking spoilers so please be mindful of that.

The movie’s most noticeable stars are Gerard Butler, 50 Cent, Pablo Schreiber, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and Jordan Bridges. In my opinion, Butler and Jackson give two of the best performances in the movie. Their scenes together work well and I think this one of Butler’s best performances to date. Butler at first seems like he is a cliché police chief, but the movie puts a story with motivation and emotion to his character that makes him more unique. The movie does have some police against the heist crew clichés but also finds a way to inject interesting material, setting you up for a different outcome. The movie’s shootout scenes, heist/cop takedown set up scenes, heist scenes, and the twist at the end makes this film enjoyable.

Den-of-Thieves-Review

As I said before, the movie has a twist which you won’t see until the very end. When you see it, it will make the movie seem like they were purposely throwing you off without you knowing. This is seen throughout the film as it does a good job of connecting scenes together which at first seem unnecessary by the end of the scene.

I would totally recommend this movie since because it was such of a surprise. I liked the trailer but I thought it was going to be cliché, and I was wrong. Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson’s performances were standouts, while the other cast did a fine job supporting them. If you have MoviePass this would for sure be a great investment to use and watch. – Johnathan Brin

Score: 7.5/10

Den of Thieves is now in theaters.

A gritty crime saga which follows the lives of an elite unit of the LA County Sheriff’s Dept. and the state’s most successful bank robbery crew as the outlaws plan a seemingly impossible heist on the Federal Reserve Bank.
