After getting some much-deserved recognition in Justice League, it seems like Superman is set to make another appearance in the DCU sooner rather than later. Although a solo film is still in early development, a new report claims the superhero will make an appearance in next year’s Shazam!. They also claim to know when Warner Bros. could be dropping the Man of Steel sequel news, finally making it official.
The newest report on the DCU is from RevengeOfTheFans, who’s been on a roll lately with DCU news. The studio is hoping to limit the number of leaks that have gone through, but it seems like they couldn’t keep this one within close reach. The site is claiming that Henry Cavill is now set to make an appearance in Shazam!, the impact of his involvement not yet known though.
They also claim however that within the story, Batson views the iconic superhero as an inspirational figure in his life. That will ultimately help guide his journey to becoming the superhero we know in the comics. Personally, I think this is a fantastic idea because it’s not only beneficial to Billy Batson’s character but also gives Superman more of a role in the DCU.
Another bit of information they claim to have heard is that the Man of Steel sequel is for sure happening, with a possible announcement of the fact being in this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. This would include the chosen director and release date, I wouldn’t be surprised if Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman) ends up at the helm.
We’ve known for months that he’s been in talks for various DC film projects, but Superman seems to be the one he’s most interested in. I assume if the studio really wants him and they are able to reach a deal by the summer, and SDCC announcement would make perfect sense.
You can currently catch Superman in Justice League.
Shazam! hits theaters on April 5, 2019.
Justice League will be released on Digital HD February 13 and on Blu-ray, 3D, and 4K on March 13
