Disney’s recent experiment of re-imagining classic animated films into action-packed live action musicals has proven to be a success with fans, critics, and award committees alike. 2017’s Beauty and Beast, starring Emma Watson, grossed $1.264 billion worldwide and was recently nominated for Academy Awards in both the Best Production Design and Best Costume Design categories. 2016’s The Jungle Book grossed $966.6 million worldwide and won The Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects.
Given the roaring success, it makes sense that the creative powers that be at Walt Disney Studios are hard at work at completing more live-action adaptations of classic animated films. Mulan, Dumbo, and The Lion King are some of the most anticipated films coming gin the next few years. However, fans will not have to wait much longer for the next musical Disney adventure as, according to a bevy of tweets from members of the cast, 2019’s Aladdin has finished principal photography and will be moving into the next steps of production.
Check out the tweets from Naomi Scott, who plays Jasmine, and Mena Massoud, who plays the titular character, below:
Directed by Guy Ritchie, Aladdin stars Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine, Will Smith as Genie, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, Navid Negahban as The Sultan, Nasim Pedrad as Dalia, Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders and Numan Acar as Hakim.
Disney’s Aladdin is set to hit theaters on May 24, 2019.
