Gwyneth Paltrow has been a staple of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) since its inception with 2008’s Iron Man. Her character has served as the consciousness and support system for Robert Downey, Jr.’s Tony Stark for 10 years and she looks to make her long-awaited return to the fray in this year’s Avengers: Infinity War.
In 2013’s Iron Man 3, Paltrow’s character Pepper Potts was exposed to the deadly Extremis virus which gives those it inhabits the abilities like super strength and regenerative healing factors. She was missing-in-action during films like Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Age Of Ultron, but her name was mentioned enough to remind fans that she is still the love interest in Tony Stark’s life. Her role as CEO of Stark Industries makes her the most powerful business woman in the entire MCU.
During a recent interview with Stephen Colbert, Paltrow spoke about the her upcoming reprisal of Pepper Potts in the upcoming Avengers films and, being the self-titled nerd that he is, Colbert was not letting her off the hook without a little prying about any potential powers the character may have. See what was said in the conversation below:
“You know, to be totally honest, I’m unclear,” Paltrow admitted. “Because it’s so secretive and it’s all on green screen, and I’m not exactly sure. And they don’t let me say anything.”
“Is there any chance, at any point, when you were working on the movie, did you thrust your hand toward someone wearing a blue suit with ping pong balls on it?” Colbert asked.
Paltrow simply responded with a “Yes.” Colbert concluded, “Than you still have powers.”
Avengers: Infinity War has certainly been hyped as a ‘ALL HANDS ON DECK’ type of situation for our heroes so Potts getting in on the action to ensure she does not simply become a causality of war is to be expected.
What do you think? Does Pepper still have the Extremis virus laying dormant within her blood stream? Will she suit up in one of Tony’s Iron Man suits? Let us know @superbromovies!
Avengers: Infinity War will hit theaters on May 4.
