Blumhouse Titles Next Installment of Purge Franchise

The next installment of ‘The Purge‘ franchise is set to release on July 4th. Today, Blumhouse released the title of the next film, ‘The First Purge.’ This will be the fourth installment of the franchise.

There was word a while ago that the fourth movie would be a prequel. The title of the film further pushes that theory. Blumhouse released the first poster for the film today as well. The poster features a “Make America Great Again” hat that says “The First Purge.” You can get a look at the original tweet here:

The theory of the film being a prequel comes from the logline:

“Welcome to the movement that began as a simple experiment: The First Purge.”

This and the title are pretty much telling us we’re going get a glimpse of the night it all began. The plot of the film reads:

“To push the crime rate below one percent for the rest of the year, the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community. But when the violence of oppressors meets the rage of the marginalized, the contagion will explode from the trial-city borders and spread across the nation.”

This is what we are told in each of the films, and each time we understand the experiment more. It seems as though everything will begin in one neighborhood, but will boil over to the rest of the states. This franchise has always been interesting, but to see and understand more of the beginnings is going to be more than interesting.

The other three films together have earned about $320M globally. The first three films together cost about $30M to make, so there are definitely working. I’m sure this film will be no different as far as the spend/return goes.

The First Purge‘ will be directed by Gerard McMurray. James DeMonaco, who directed the first three films, will be writing and producing. Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum, Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form and DeMonaco’s longtime production partner, Sébastien K. Lemercier also produce.

We will keep you guys updated on the film as the updates come in! How do you guys feel about the film title and poster? Let us know your thoughts, tweet us @SuperBroMovies!
