It has been some time since we have had any updates on the progress of HBO’s upcoming Watchmen series. We still have no news on the show’s casting situation with the show reportedly set to begin filming soon, but luckily today it was announced that the series has tapped a director for the pilot. HBO has hired Nicole Kassell of The Leftovers to helm the series pilot.
Kassell has had quite a bit of experience with HBO has she has helmed the aforementioned The Leftovers, which was also created by Watchmen‘s Damon Lindelof, and an episode of Vinyl. Her directing credits also include TNT’s Claws, FX’s The Americans, AMC’s Better Call Saul, and ABC’s American Crime. Based on her previous work it seems that Kassell will be a perfect fit for the dark and grim tone of Alan Moore’s iconic story.
Watchmen was officially ordered by HBO in September but besides this update, we haven’t had much more news of the series. Hopefully, now that the show has a director on board we will soon get casting news. It will be very interesting to see how the acclaimed graphic novel is brought to life on our TV’s.
