‘The Fate Of The Furious’ Director F. Gary Gray In Talks To Helm ‘MEN IN BLACK’ Spinoff

According to Deadline, Straight Outta Compton and The Fate of the Furious director F Gary Gray is in talks to helm the upcoming Men In Black spinoff for Sony. The script for the film was being written by Iron Man writers Matt Holloway & Art Marcum.

Gray has seen a steep rise in the directing ranks since he took on the story of NWA with 2015s Straight Outta Compton. He then went on to direct the most recent installment of the Fast and Furious franchise, The Fate of the Furious. That film went on to become the third highest grossing film last year making $1.2 billion at the worldwide box office.

The Men In Black spinoff was announced some years ago and was reportedly originally intended to be a Men In Black and 21 Jump Street crossover. That idea was eventually scrapped and the film has become a more traditional spinoff of the Will Smith led franchise.

Sony has set the release of the film for May 17, 2019. Neither Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones are expected to return but the film will likely take place in the same continuity as the original three movies.
