Heath Ledger’s Joker is one of the best things to happen in the history of film. He created and lived the role, showing us just how dedicated he was to creating the best version of the character he could. The passing of Heath shook the world and left many questions unanswered. One question was that crossed many minds was, what was the fate of the Joker? Would the world see the brilliant Heath Ledger play the iconic villain again?
At first, Christopher Nolan stated that The Dark Knight was the only movie that would portray the Joker in it. If Ledger would not have passed, there’s no way he would have not made an appearance in The Dark Knight Rises. To keep the spark of that thought going, Heath Ledger’s sister recalled a conversation she had with Ledger the night before he passed. She said:
I spoke to him the night before (he died) and we were laughing and joking. He was so proud of what he had done in Batman. And I know he had plans for another Batman. He loved working with Chris Nolan and Christian Bale and Gary Oldman. He just had the best time ever doing that film.
When he came home at Christmas he couldn’t wait to tell us all about it and he was doing the voice and laughing, showing me all the rushes. We had a great time.
After his passing, any plans regarding the Joker’s involvement in TDKR were scrapped. Nolan wasn’t even sure if his series would get a third film. Trying to recast the role would have been a disaster so the right call was made. It really brings me down that such a talented individual had to leave us so soon. The man was full of smiles and absolutely nailed the role he was given by Nolan. Seeing Ledger play the Joker again would have been amazing but all we can do now is cherish the films we have of him now and remember how much he loved to smile.
Heath Ledger will go down as one of the best film villains we will ever see and that alone is a great accomplishment. Would you have like to seen Heath Ledger come back in another Batman film? Let us know over at SuperBroMovies!
