Wonder Woman was definitely one of the many great cinematic highlights of 2017. The character finally had the chance to shine in her own solo film that received great critical and financial success. Greenlighting a sequel was expected news, but as to where the sequel is headed still remains somewhat of a mystery. Director Patty Jenkins has confirmed that it is a new stand-alone adventure, and rumors via ScreenRant point to the film being set in the 1980’s around the final days of the Cold War. Nothing is officially confirmed until the studio says it themselves, but gathering pieces of news together to create strong speculation is always fun and more than often leads to the truth. Omega Underground have just provided fans with another piece of information that widens the possibility of what the sequel’s story could be like.
According to the site, the film will begin principal photography in England this summer. This will surely accommodate and give enough time for the filmmakers to produce the best product by the November 1st 2019 release date. The site suspects that the production will use the stage space at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden, England. This staging is no stranger to the studio for huge films such as the first WW, The Dark Knight, Justice League, and the Harry Potter films have used it before.
This information could puzzle fans from a first read. Obviously, just because they are filming in the U.K does not directly mean that this will be the exact story setting. However, the location does imply that the sequel could have another international setting. This would fall into line with Director Jenkins’ words on the film being really different and the Cold War rumors. Could this mean that Diana would find herself on Russian ground during the conflict? Most people assume American soil when a film is rumored to take place during the Cold War.
It would be awesome to see Wonder Woman take communists on their own turf this time around. If she is also fighting in Russia, then what crazy scheme would the Russians be up to that requires Diana’s intervention? The official synopsis should release soon before filming begins. If the date is set for the summer, then fans should not have to wait much longer.
