According to Kotaku, a remastered Spyro trilogy will be announced in March 2018 and released in the third quarter later this year.
The remastered game will feature upgrades in visuals with slight changes to gameplay. The game will be playable on both PS4 and PS4 Pro. The game will likely reflect that of the remastering of the Crash Bandicoot games in the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, which received high praise after its June 2017 release on PS4. The game is also under development by the same studio that produced the remastered Crash Bandicoot.
September 2018 is what one source suggested for an exact release date, which lines up with the 20th anniversary of the franchise.
The remastered games will be Spyro the Dragon, Ripto’s Rage!, and Year of the Dragon. There is also potential for the game to feature “content cut from the original releases of those games.”
Spyro the Dragon released on the original Playstation in 1998 with the aforementioned sequels releasing in 1999 and 2000, respectively. Spyro has been featured in several other games after, including spin-offs in which Spyro and Crash Bandicoot teamed up (Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto’s Rampage and Spyro Orange: The Cortex Conspiracy both for GBA). The most recent games to feature Spyro were the Skylanders games in the early 2010s.
